Training Opportunities

In 2013, the Training Center of the Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority became recognized by its parent American Heart Association Training Center at Kellogg Community College as an AHA Training Site. As an official AHA Training Site, the MAFFAA Training Center has the ability to provide American Heart Association classes in First Aid, CPR / AED, and Advanced Emergency Cardiac Care, serving the general public and healthcare providers in and around the MAFFAA service area.

There is a minimum 2-week advance notice required for scheduling any AHA course, per local AHA Training Center guidelines.

All AHA courses require at least four participants in order to run. When fewer than four students have signed up, the class will need to be rescheduled, and the students will be notified of the change in advance whenever possible.

The AHA course schedule plan for March and April 2018 is as follows:

March 29 - CPR - BLS for Healthcare Provider (MFR personnel) call for openings - 1730 to 2200

April 12 - ACLS Renewal course (Oaklawn personnel at MAFFAA) course full -  0800 to 1700

April 25 and 26 - ACLS Initial Provider course (Oaklawn personnel at MAFFAA) course full - 0800 to 1700, both days

Oaklawn personnel interested in signing up for AHA course offerings should contact the Education Services Coordinator at Oaklawn Hospital to indicate interest or need for a particular course. The Oaklawn Education Services Coordinator will facilitate course setup and registration with MAFFAA for most Oaklawn-affiliated employees.

Other individuals or agencies wishing to schedule classes may contact MAFFAA Operations Manager Bryan Fuller directly by calling (269) 789-6174.

NOTE: MAFFAA is unable to complete the Skills Testing portions (Parts 2 and 3) of the advanced provider courses (ACLS, PALS) at this time.

Additional information pertaining to course descriptions and associated time/cost investments can be found in the following document:

Course Matrix for CPR and First Aid Courses

All AHA courses completed through the KCC AHA Training Center require a minimum two week advance notice for scheduling purposes through the KCC Training Center, and this requirement further applies to AHA courses provided by MAFFAA.

Additional Education Program requests can be made by contacting Operations Manager Bryan Fuller at (269) 789-6174.

Education for EMS-Licensed Personnel

During the academic calendar year, MAFFAA hosts continuing education units (CEU's) sponsored by the EMS Education Department at Kellogg Community College. CE courses held at MAFFAA are intended for individuals licensed as an Emergency Medical Services provider within the State of Michigan, as regulated by the Michigan Department of Community Health. These classes are managed and taught by MAFFAA personnel affiliated with Kellogg Community College as EMS Education Department faculty members, and generally cover the topics required by the MDCH for renewing a current, valid EMS license. Please see the link below for the current EMS education schedule. At this time, these CE offerings are still offered at no charge to EMS personnel, and are open to all licensed EMS providers (some classes may be limited in size due to equipment or facility limitations).

The next KCC sponsored CE class hosted by MAFFAA will be:
