Local agencies awarded grant funding for CPR devices

July 25, 2017

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced a $497,160 regional awards for 20 fire departments in West Michigan to help purchase equipment. This grant comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.

"Our firefighters and first responders in West Michigan put their lives on the line to protect our families and homes," said Senator Stabenow. "Thanks to these new resources, these brave men and women will have the equipment they need to help them do their jobs more safely and effectively."

"West Michigan communities depend on firefighters to protect their families, businesses, and homes," said Senator Peters. "This critical funding will provide the region with upgraded equipment so firefighters can more effectively and efficiently do their jobs."

The regional award provided funding for agencies within Calhoun County to purchase mechanical chest compression units to assist in CPR, including the Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority.

October 9, 2017

The Defibtech LifeLine ARM Chest Compression devices were delivered to local agencies last week following 'Train the Trainer' sessions held at the Marshall Regional Law Enforcement Center on Thursday and Friday. MAFFAA received six units, allowing for deployment on each ambulance used by the agency.

MAFFAA Paramedics and EMTs will complete initial training on the equipment throughout the week of October 9th, and the devices will be in use soon. Once the devices are in use, emergency medical personnel will be able to continue delivering effective chest compressions to the patient in cardiac arrest while simultaneously performing additional interventions.

Ambulance Authority Equipment Millage

On May 2, 2017, Marshall area voters approved a 0.2 mill request to aid the agency with equipment replacement costs for a period of 10 years starting in December of 2017. The request passed with a 72% 'yea' vote. Once again, we are overwhelmed by the support of the people in our community. Your support with the passage of this request will provide assistance with the ongoing costs associated with equipment purchases and maintenance. Thank you once again for your continued support.
